Making Music at Thornwell
This is a vibrant and enjoyable aspect of the curriculum. All children are given the opportunity to perform, compose and appraise music. The curriculum ensures children develop a range of skills and abilities using their voice, tuned and un-tuned instruments.
The curriculum is supported by Gwent Music Support Service which provides tuition for individual children for brass, woodwind, percussion and guitar. A private tutor also provides piano lessons. Additionally Gwent Music provide specialist support through workshops where children are introduced to specific aspects of music and instruments from their own and other cultures eg. South American Samba.
Children who are learning an instrument may also attend our school orchestra club run by Mr Williams after school on a Wednesday.

Individual Music Lessons
Music lessons are available to pupils in KS2 (Y3 and above) through the Gwent Music Service. The cost of these lessons is subsidised in part by Monmouthshire County Council and by the School. Lessons are available for woodwind, brass, guitar and percussion!
Instruments are available at school for a small deposit or via the Music Support Service.
